Engaged but mediocre 20-something seeks enchantment and paths to saving the world. It does not matter how many paths diverge in a wood, or whether it is spring or fall, summer or winter–the important thing is that some of those paths lead through the forest, not one of fear but a wood dappled with play of light and shadow, to a better future–for all humanity at once, not just the few who manage to push through the obstacles or have superior means with which to avoid them entirely. We can isolate ourselves, each one of us an island as capitalist society would have us, and ignore the world or try to build a substitute one out of bits of straw, silicon and blood-encrusted glass, or we can join hands in love for all humanity and all of the symbiotic actions on this planet of which we are a part, and together overcome the walls, brambles, and yes, even the poor souls who try to block our way forward. If we unite, we can take the path to a better world instead of perishing into oblivion.
“‘It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door…. You step into the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.’” -JRR Tolkien
